Prince's Guitar Up For Auction Starting at $30,000

BEVERLY HILLS (CBSLA.com) — One of Prince's guitars is up for auction with a starting price of $30,000.

Heritage Auctions in Beverly Hills will put the Yellow Cloud Electric Guitar up for bid on June 24 and 25.

The custom-made solid body guitar was the pop icon's instrument of choice for his concerts from the late 1980's to the mid-1990's, according to the auction house.

"It's interesting to realize that Prince personally designed and commissioned this piece of art and it carries hallmarks of his famous "Love Symbol," said Garry Shrum, Director of Music Memorabilia at Heritage Auctions.

Prince used the yellow guitar so much, the neck broke in 1994 during a French TV show. The artist had his guitar technician, Zeke Clark, repair it.

"This Yellow Cloud guitar was Prince's main guitar and used in most of his early videos and touring performances & album recordings," Clark wrote in his letter, which accompanies the guitar.

The pop icon died April 21, 2016 at his Paisley Park home in Minnesota.
