Preliminary magnitude 2.6 earthquake strikes near Malibu coast

CBS News Los Angeles

A preliminary magnitude 2.6 earthquake struck near the Malibu coast on Sunday evening.

It occurred at about 11:05 p.m. about 10 miles northwest of the city, according to the United States Geological Survey. The temblor happened at a geographical depth of 11.2 kilometers, or seven miles.

No reports of damage or injury have yet been made.

According to the USGS' "Felt Report" people throughout Los Angeles County disclosed feeling some sort of shaking.

The region is already in the midst of natural disaster recovery, after the devastating Palisades Fire destroyed thousands of homes and razed entire neighborhoods to the ground. So far, authorities say that 10 people have died in connection with the blaze, which was fueled by a windstorm so strong the area had not seen anything like it in more than a decade, according to the National Weather Service.

This is a developing story. Check back for details.
