Pregnant Teen Shot At Pico-Union Park

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A pregnant teenager was in stable condition Monday after she was shot multiple times at a park in the Pico-Union district.

The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. Sunday at Toberman Park at 17th and Toberman streets, police said.

According to investigators, a male suspect approached the 18-year-old who was with a group of people near the basketball courts and reportedly started shooting.

The 6-month pregnant teen was struck several times in the chest, stomach and left leg.

The woman was transported to a local hospital where she underwent emergency surgery. She and her unborn baby were expected to survive, according to Sgt. Ogaz.

The gunman, who fled the scene, was described as an Hispanic man in his late teens or early 20s wearing a white t-shirt, blue shorts and a blue baseball cap.
