Powerball Jackpot Reaches $422M

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Feeling lucky? Then it might be the night to buy a Powerball ticket.

The jackpot for the multi-state Powerball game has reached $422 million. Wednesday night's drawing takes place at 8 p.m., but ticket sales will be cut off at 7 p.m.

No tickets were sold with all six numbers in Saturday's drawing of the multi-state lottery game. The drawing was the 22nd since the last time a ticket with all six numbers was sold.

A ticket matching five numbers but missing the Powerball number would have been worth about $1.16 million, but no such tickets has been recently sold either, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association, which conducts the game.

The odds of matching all five numbers and the Powerball number is 1 in about 293 million, according to the Powerball website. The overall chance of winning a prize is 1 in 24.87.

The Powerball game is played in 44 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands.
