Man Arrested After Standoff Forces Lockdown Of Sunland-Tujunga School
SUNLAND-TUJUNGA (CBSLA) – A possibly armed man barricaded in a Sunland-Tujunga home forced the lockdown of a nearby elementary school Monday morning for several hours before he was eventually taken into custody.
Los Angeles Unified School police told CBS2 that Apperson Street Elementary School was forced on lockdown at around 9:47 a.m. after officers responded to a domestic-violence call involving a possibly armed and suicidal man at a home in the 7900 block of Day Street, just a block from the school.
Police were told the man may have access to weapons.
A Los Angeles police tactical unit and hostage negotiators responded. At one point the suspect appeared to have gotten into a parked car, police said. At around noon, aerial footage from Sky9 showed the suspect being safely apprehended.
The lockdown was lifted at 12:15 p.m. and the school resumed normal operations.
It's unclear if the suspect was actually armed or what exactly precipitated the standoff. His name was not released.
