Police Investigating 2 Shootings In West Adams

WEST ADAMS (CBSLA.com) — Police Friday were investigating two shootings in West Adams.

The incident began around 11:40 p.m. Thursday at West Adams Boulevard and South Longwood Avenue, officials said.

Police say an argument outside a church led to two shootings. A man was killed, and a woman suffered critical injuries.

A description of the suspect was quickly released. A few blocks away, LAPD officers patrolling the area spotted a suspect matching the description.

"The officers attempted to stop him. When they exited their police car, he began to run away from them," LAPD Sgt. Jaritt Severns said. "At that point he was actually fleeing from them when he remove a revolver or pistol from his waistband and continued to run away from the officers. At no point did he point it at them."

Authorities called in a helicopter and K-9 units to aid in the search for that man. He was taken into custody, and later determined he was not the suspect in the earlier shootings.

Residents were asked to stay indoors during the investigation.

The search was ongoing.
