Possible Human Skeletal Remains Found Inside Store In Compton

COMPTON (CBSLA.com)  —   Authorities said possible human skeletal remains were found inside a Compton store Friday.

The possible remains were found in a religious/spiritual shop inside a strip mall. In the Latino community, the stores are often called botanicas -- and they sell candles, religious items, amulets, oils, perfumes and potions.

Unconfirmed reports said as many as nine skulls were found but there was no corroboration they were human.

Sheriff's Homicide Bureau detectives were sent about 11 a.m. to the store -- named Omi Relekun -- located in the 1500 block of North Long Beach Boulevard.

"It is possible these remains are legally possessed skeletal specimens," according to a sheriff's statement.

The coroner's office was investigating the origin of the bones, sheriff's Deputy Ryan Rouzan said.
