Stretch Of Beach Reopens Following Shark Sighting In OC
NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Lifeguards on Friday reopened a stretch of beach following a shark sighting in Orange County.
Just after 4 p.m. on Thursday, Orange County lifeguards were notified of a shark sighting off Huntington State Beach by a lifeguard patrol boat.
A shark bumped a surfer's board, which is considered to be aggressive behavior.
Although the shark did not bite the surfer, lifeguards were forced to close a portion of the coastline between Huntington State Beach and Newport Beach.
According to lifeguards, towers 76-54 were affected by the closure.
Red flags were placed along the shoreline, however, some people ignored the warning to stay out of the water.
Just before 11 a.m., lifeguards announced the beaches had reopened to the public.
