Porter Ranch twins found in backyard pool: 1 dies, 1 remains critical
Around 10:34 a.m. Thursday, first responders with the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a Porter Ranch home to four-year-old twins unresponsive in their backyard pool.
An LAFD spokesperson said As LAFD dispatchers provided telephone CPR guidance, LAFD Firefighter/Paramedics arrived at the 10000 block of Des Moines Avenue home to continue advanced life support.
Paramedics transported the boys to a regional Pediatric Trauma Center. One boy was in critical condition and the other was in grave condition and later died at the hospital.
Police investigated how the boys ended up in the pool and determined there was no evidence of wrongdoing, describing the case as a "tragic accident."
A city Crisis Response Team was sent to the scene to assist the family and neighbors. LAFD Capt. Erik Scott looked to the tragedy to remind families of pool safety.
"It is important to remind people who have a pool to do four things, especially with summer coming up," Scott said. "First is to secure your pool with appropriate barriers; second is to designate a water watcher when children are swimming; third is, if a child is missing in the home, check the water first; and fourth is learn CPR."
