Health Officials Test Air Quality In Porter Ranch Homes

PORTER RANCH (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles County health officials Friday tested the quality of air inside Porter Ranch area homes following a nearly four-month natural gas leak.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and UCLA assisted officials to provide baseline readings on 100 homes in Porter Ranch and 10 homes outside of the area to determine if there are chemicals still lingering in the atmosphere.

The testing comes at a time when thousands of residents who were living in temporary housing funded by Southern California Gas Co. await word from an appeals court on when they might need to move home.

Some residents who moved back to their homes have reported experiencing continued health issues.

Others have found brown oily residue on their properties.

Health officials have repeatedly said there is no risk of long-term health problems associated with the natural gas leak.

The leak was reported at SoCal Gas Co.'s Aliso Canyon storage facility in October 2015.
