Poor Pup Trapped Inside Jetty In Ventura County

MARINA PARK (CBSLA.com) — A small dog was out with his two owners for a stroll on a Ventura County beach Sunday when he disappeared inside a jetty and got stuck under the rocks.

Firefighters were called around 12:20 p.m. to the north jetty of the Ventura Harbor.

They weren't able to see the dog but by following his barking and whimpering they found the area where he was trapped. Crews estimated he was 15 to 20 feet below the top of the jetty, which is made of very large concrete jacks.

The dog had been trapped in a space underneath one of the jacks and one of his possible exits was blocked by a pile of sand.

Firefighters removed the sand, allowing the dog to move towards them so they could lift him out.

He was returned to his owners after what had been a two-and-a-half-hour ordeal.

The owners of the dog said they had searched the jetty for an hour before calling the Ventura City Fire Department for help.

No one, including the pooch, was injured during the rescue.
