Officials Remove Plane Wreckage From Roof Of Pomona Building
POMONA (CBSLA.com) — Officials Monday removed plane wreckage from the roof of a building in Pomona to an aircraft hangar for further investigation into what caused it to crash mid-flight.
Since the building has been red-tagged, employees will work at a different location until the building inspector is able to determine how much damage was done, and when it is safe to enter.
According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, crews responded around 4:40 p.m. Sunday to a building located in the 900 block of Corporate Center Drive for report of a plane that landed on the roof of a building.
Upon their arrival, paramedics airlifted the pilot, Donald Bach, 61, to a hospital for treatment of a broken ankle and cuts. According to his wife, Bach remains listed in stable condition.
Officials said the impact of the plane's wheels landing in the crash subsequently created a hole in the roof of the building.
CBS2's Jasmine Viel reported Bach, an experienced pilot who has been flying for 45 years, was attempting to travel from Fullerton to the Pomona airport when the aircraft lost power.
He had seconds to find a safe place to land away from homes, cars and freeways.
Federal agencies are working to determine what caused the plane to crash.
