Police: Woman Threw Chili Cheese Fries At Glendale Restaurant Employees During Robbery

GLENDALE (CBSLA.com) — A Los Angeles woman who allegedly threw chili cheese fries at restaurant employees during a robbery is scheduled to make her first court appearance Tuesday.

Jennifer Santos, 40, was arrested Sunday after an apparent robbery attempt at Troy's Drive-In 6, 520 S. Glendale Ave., Glendale police spokeswoman Officer Tahnee Lightfoot said. She faces charges of robbery, burglary and vandalism and is being held on $50,000 bail.

Santos entered the restaurant, pointed her fingers like a gun and demanded money before going behind the counter and trying to punch an employee, Lightfoot said. When another employee intervened, Santos allegedly punched him, then grabbed an order of chili cheese fries and threw it at them.

It's not known if she took the chili cheese fries from the counter or from a customer, Lightfoot said.

"It was probably sitting on a table and she picked it up and threw it," she said, and there's no indication the fries hit anyone.

Santos then left the restaurant and took something out of her shopping cart and threw it at the front door, which shattered, Lightfoot said. An employee suffered a cut to a finger.

"We can't classify her as a transient, but she had a shopping cart with her," Lightfoot said. Santos had never had any problems in Glendale before Sunday, according to Lightfoot.

Officers later detained Santos at Maple Market nearby. She was found to be in possession of $16 of stolen merchandise, Lightfoot said.
