Police: Car Thief Stole Ferrari Twice, Once From Impound Lot

FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — A man is in custody Monday after police say he stole a Ferrari twice, including once from an impound lot.

Earnie Hooks, 39, was arrested Thursday in Studio City by Fontanta police officers, driving a stolen Ferrari, according to Fontana police spokeswoman Martha Guzman-Hurtado.

Fontana police say Hooks first caught the attention of officers when he fled from a DUI checkpoint Aug. 29 in Fontana while driving a 2014 Ferrari 458 Spyder, which had been reported stolen. The Ferrari was later found abandoned in the area, and Hooks had fled before officers arrived, police said.

The next day, police say, Hooks arrived at 3 a.m. at the impound lot where the Ferrari was being stored. Hooks broke into the facility and stole the Ferrari a second time, police said.

Hooks faces charges of car theft, receiving stolen property, burglary and other warrants. He is being held on $55,000 bail.
