Kitten Killed In Alleged Domestic Incident In Colton

COLTON (CBSLA.com) — A beloved family kitten was killed in an apparent domestic incident over the weekend.

Colton police responded to a disturbance call around 10:30 a.m. Sunday in the 800 block of South Walnut.

When officers arrived, the kitten named Whiskers was found dead.

The suspect fled the scene prior to the arrival of authorities, but investigators have since identified him.

Yolanda Gonzalez told KCAL9's Tom Wait that her daughter's cousin was the person who killed the 2-month-old animal.

"He reached over and grabbed...[it]...off the bed and threw it against the closet and killed him," she said.

Gonzalez said her family member has been in jail before for domestic violence.

What triggered the latest alleged incident is unclear, but Gonzalez claims the suspect threatened the cats in the past.

"He reached for the other cat, he got him, too, but he didn't die," she said.

Felony animal cruelty charges could be filed against the suspect next week.
