Police Shooting Critically Injures Newport Beach Man

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A Newport Beach man was critically injured Friday after being shot by two police officers, Newport Beach police said.

Scott Jay Abraham, 43, was shot after the officers responded to the 4600 block of Seashore Drive at 9:45 p.m., following a report of shots being fired, according to police. The officers allegedly  saw Abraham fire a shot after he walked from a residence onto a beach-facing patio, and they returned fire.

Newport Beach Police Sgt. Penny Freeman said Abraham is a relative of the owner of the residence where the shooting took place.

Abraham was taken to a hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

No officers were injured in the incident. As in the case of all officer-involved shootings, he Orange County District Attorney's Office is investigating.
