Police Shoot Man Brandishing Sword In San Bernardino County

ONTARIO (AP) — Authorities say an apparently suicidal man was shot and killed by officers after he came at them while brandishing a large sword in San Bernardino County.

Ontario Police Sgt. Jeff Higbee says the unidentified man pulled out the samurai-style sword as he exited his car following a brief vehicle pursuit Tuesday night.

Officers fired non-lethal rubber rounds after the man failed to drop the weapon. Higbee says when the man continued to walk toward the officers, they opened fire with their service weapons.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he died. No officers were injured.

Higbee says officers initially responded after police got a call from a man in a car saying he had a gun and that he was suicidal.
