Police: Knife-Wielding Man Shot, Killed By Officers After Stabbing Stepfather

BELL GARDENS (CBSLA) – A knife-wielding man was shot and killed by Bell Gardens police officers Wednesday night after he stabbed his stepfather.

The shooting occurred at 10:18 p.m. at a home in the 5900 block of Loveland Street, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Officers responding to a 911 call about a family disturbance came upon an agitated 24-year-old Hispanic man, the sheriffs' department reports.

Officers chased the suspect into the home, where they witnessed him stab his 33-year-old stepfather with a knife, LASD said. That is when they shot him in the upper torso. He died at the scene.

The victim was rushed to a hospital where he was in stable condition Thursday, the sheriff's department said.

No officers were hurt.

No names were released. The sheriff's department is investigating.
