Police Searching For Grandmother Who Took Boy, 5, From Parents

WESTMINSTER (CBSLA.com) — Police are searching for a woman who took off with her 5-year-old grandson after meeting the boy and his estranged parents for dinner at a Westminster fast-food restaurant.

The child's parents and grandmother, Jessica Truong, met at a Carl's Jr. restaurant, 13425 Beach Blvd., about 10 p.m. on Monday, Westminster police Officer Rachel Archambault said. The parents are working out child custody issues during their split, she said.

When the parents stepped outside for a discussion, Truong, 56, led the boy out a side door and left her vehicle behind in the restaurant's parking lot, Archambault said.

The child's name is Isaiah Michael Alvarado and is described as a Vietnamese boy, 4-foot tall, 45 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white shirt and blue cargo pants.

Police say they are not sure what Truong's intentions are in taking her grandson.

"We need to find Michael as soon as possible," Westminster police Commander Tim Vu said in a statement. "His parents are extremely worried and we are doing everything we can to locate him and his grandmother."
