Santa Ana Police Search For Suspect In Deadly Drive-By Shooting

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Police are looking for a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old man in Orange County.

The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. Sunday at South Newhope Street and McFadden Avenue, according to Santa Ana police Commander Enrique Esparza.

Leoncio Banuelos was walking southbound on Newhope St. when a silver SUV traveling north stopped.

Someone inside the SUV shot several times at Banuelos, striking him at least once in the upper torso.

From there, "detectives believe the victim walked to his residence in the 300 block of South Newhope and police were called," Esparza said.

Banuelos was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say they currently have no suspects in their murder investigation. Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call investigators at (714) 245-8390.
