Police Search For Suspects After Gang Member Is Gunned Down In Santa Ana

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Police Wednesday were searching for suspects in the fatal drive-by shooting of a 31-year-old gang member.

Michael Paul Stanton of Santa Ana was gunned down about 8 p.m. Tuesday in the driveway of a home in the 600 block of  N. Rosita Street, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

Bertagna says Stanton was riding a bicycle on the street when a dark-colored sedan drove by.

"The dark sedan pulled up, words were exchanged and there was gunfire," Bertagna said.

Stanton died at the scene of a gunshot wound to the upper chest, Bertagna said.

Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related, Bertagna said. Stanton has a criminal history and tattoos on his eyelids related to his gang affiliation.
