The Los Angeles Police Department say they received a report of gunfire at 7:09 p.m.

A man reportedly was shoplifting inside the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza, at 3650 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, when he fired at security guards and fled.

Security guards chased the suspect as he ran into a residential area of Baldwin Hills.

Officers spent more than an hour scouring the area until a police dog tracked down the man, who hid in a small backyard garage in the 3700 block of Santa Rosalia Drive.

During a confrontation with police, the suspect was shot and bitten by a police dog.

SKY9's Stu Mundel was overhead as the man was wheeled out on a gurney. The man was transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.
