Police Search For Killer Of El Monte Fast-Food Worker

EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — Dozens of people honored 25-year-old Juan Vidal outside a Jack in the Box in El Monte Saturday evening while authorities searched for his killer.

A masked man jumped the counter and shot Vidal during an attempted robbery Friday night at the restaurant, an L.A. County Sheriff's spokesperson said.

The thief left empty handed.

Vidal had been attending Citrus College with dreams of one day becoming a pharmacist.

"I don't know what sick person would take my son from me," His mother Mary Smay said.  "He was my life."

Vidal's family is asking anyone who might know anything to step up.

"If somebody could say something, that'd be beautiful," Vidal's stepfather Frank Rivera said.  "It would change a lot of people's lives.  And I just hope he's caught,"
