Man armed with sword arrested after hours-long standoff in Baldwin Hills

A sword-wielding suspect was arrested following an hours-long standoff with police inside of an apartment in Baldwin Hills on Tuesday. 

Police said they received a call just after 10 a.m. on Tuesday about a suspect chasing another person with a sword, according to investigators with the Los Angeles Police Department.

Upon arriving to the area, officers say that the man had barricaded inside of a complex at Gibraltar Avenue and August Street, leading them to surround the area and call a SWAT team to the scene as they also believed he may have been armed with a gun.

At around 4:20 p.m., nearly six hours later, police say that the suspect was arrested without further incident.

No additional information was provided. The suspect has not yet been identified and its unclear if there were any injuries stemming from the matter.
