Driver in suspected stolen vehicle taken into custody in Downey after high-speed chase

Stolen silver Audi leads police on pursuit into Downey where one man in the car is taken into custod

One person is in custody Tuesday after the driver in a suspected stolen vehicle led the California High Patrol on a high-speed chase.

The CHP began chasing the silver Audi with two men inside Tuesday morning, mostly along the 605 Freeway.

CHP followed by air only, as the driver of the newer model car raced at high speeds, even squeezing by traffic on the right shoulder of the freeway and aggressively changing lanes.

The chase was originally picked up by authorities on the westbound 60 Freeway at Grand Avenue in Diamond Bar, then onto the 605 Freeway. Once in Downey, the driver got off the freeway and continued to speed along surface streets. It was at this point Downey Police got involved in the chase.

After driving through a parking lot and even on the wrong side of the road, the driver pulled into a parking structure and police surrounded the building.

After several minutes, one man was taken into custody in front of a building across the street from the parking garage.

It is not known at this time if the other person in the car was taken into custody.
