The pursuit began around 12:20 p.m. on the northbound 57 Freeway in Diamond Bar, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The suspect was driving erratically and weaving around cars.

He led officers to the eastbound 10 Freeway, exited at Towne Avenue and got back on the westbound 10.

The driver made it to the westbound 210 Freeway by 12:30 p.m. A few minutes later, he transitioned onto the southbound 605.

During the pursuit, he collided with several vehicles and kept right on going. It's unclear if anyone was injured.

The silver Toyota SUV exited the 605 in Whittier and began off-roading, driving through dusty gravel along some train tracks.

At 12:50 p.m., he stopped the vehicle and took off on foot, wearing a tan floppy hat and a long-sleeved black shirt and pants.

The man approached an underground tunnel near the tracks and appeared to have run inside. Deputies set up a perimeter around the area and were guarding the tunnel entrance with guns raised.

Around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a SWAT team was uncovering manhole covers in Whittier in their search for the suspect.

Shortly before 5 p.m., authorities took down their perimeters and suspended the search.
