Police Officer Shot In Head Released From Hospital

SAN BERNARDINO (AP) — A police officer shot in the head 11 weeks ago has been released from the hospital.

A suspected gang member shot San Bernardino Police Officer Gabriel Garcia while he was on patrol.

Garcia's department has now disclosed that the 31-year-old was transferred to a rehabilitation facility for work on his long-term recovery.

His father, himself a captain on the force, said in October that Garcia had regained the ability to speak and had limited use of his limbs.

Garcia suffered brain injuries when he was shot once in the head Aug. 22 by a man brandishing a handgun and assault rifle.

His partner killed the gunman.
