Police Offer Safety Tips Ahead Of Halloween Weekend

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Officials provided safety tips to parents and motorists Friday ahead of Halloween weekend.

The Los Angeles Police Department has provided the following advice in order for the public to remain vigilant for potential safety hazards:

— Every trick-or-treater should carry a flashlight in order to light their way and to make it easier for motorists to spot them

— Young children should use face makeup instead of wearing a mask

— If a costume requires a gun, make sure to pick one that can be clearly identified as a fake weapon

— Parents should talk with children before they go knocking on door bells about safety procedures

— Trick-or-treaters should make sure to know to wait at street corners before crossing

— All candy should be saved for consumption at the end of the night

— Parents should inspect each treat as a precaution for rips in packing to make sure it has not been tampered with

Authorities reminded the public to remain cautious and alert of surroundings at all times over the weekend.
