Police: Judge Took Grenade To Torrance Courthouse

TORRANCE (AP) — Police say a judge took an apparently live grenade to a Los Angeles-area courthouse, prompting some tense moments before it was safely taken away.

Police say the Superior Court judge — who's not being identified — found the grenade in the possessions of a relative who'd recently died and took it in his car to the Torrance courthouse Tuesday afternoon.

Police say he apparently wanted to dispose of the device and asked a deputy for help.

The parking lot was evacuated shortly after 4 p.m., near the end of the court day, until a sheriff's bomb squad took away the grenade.

Nobody was injured.
