Girl, 2, Dies After Babysitter Finds Her Under Collapsed Trundle Bed

HIGHLAND PARK (CBSLA.com) — A 2-year-old girl died Tuesday after becoming trapped underneath a collapsed trundle bed under the watch of her babysitter, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers from the LAPD northeast division responded to the 5200 block of Glen Ellen Place around 7:20 p.m. after receiving a call about the suspicious death of a juvenile.

KCAL9's Rachel Kim reports investigators determined the death was not suspicious, however, and was merely a tragic accident.

A LAPD spokesperson said a babysitter was watching the girl but somehow lost track of her. After searching frantically inside and outside the apartment, the child was found trapped underneath a trundle bed that had collapsed, they said.

The child was transported to a hospital but did not survive. Investigators believe she may have suffocated.

No charges are expected to be filed against the parents.
