Police investigating fatal officer-involved shooting following pursuit in Pomona

Ontario police shoot and kill pursuit suspect

One suspect died after an officer-involved shooting following a pursuit through Ontario and into Pomona. 

The Ontario Police Department tried to pull over the suspect's vehicle at about 7:35 p.m. when they refused to stop and continued to drive away. The pursuit went through Montclair and into Pomona. 

The chase came to an end after the driver crashed into another vehicle in the area of 9th Street and Dakota Avenue in an unincorporated area of Pomona. 

According to a press release by the Ontario Police Department, the pursuit suspect, identified as 39-year-old Pomona resident Miguel Angel Rodriguez, exited his vehicle after the crash armed with a firearm. An Ontario PD K-9 was deployed, and as police approached the Rodriguez, an officer-involved shooting occurred. 

Police then performed life-saving measures on Rodriguez until first responders with Montclair Fire Department arrived. He was later pronounced dead.

A handgun was recovered at the scene. 

The shooting investigation is being handled by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
