A body of a 50-year-old man was found in an abandoned U-Haul trailer parked in a residential area of Mid-City near the 10 Freeway on Wednesday.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner's office identified the victim as Henry Jernigan, who had a gunshot wound.

The body was discovered around 10:25 a.m. near the 2400 block of Redondo Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The body was wrapped in a nylon-type tarp and a blanket.

Investigators said there were decomposition issues with the body. The U-Haul was reported stolen before officers found the remains.

Authorities believe the person who rented the U-Haul is not a suspect.

The incident remains under investigation.
