Police Hunt For Suspects Who Fatally Shot Former HS Basketball Standout
HARBOR CITY (CBSLA.com) — Police are on the hunt for the suspects who gunned down a former high school basketball standout in Harbor City.
Shailo Leafa, 21,was sitting with two other men when he was shot around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday near a parking lot at 259th Street and Western Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Unidentified suspects approached and fired several rounds, striking Leafa and another man, police said.
Both were taken to a hospital, where Leafa was declared dead. The other victim remains in critical condition, according to the LAPD.
"There are no descriptions of the suspects and the motive for the shooting is unknown," according to a department statement.
Leafa, who graduated Narbonne High School in 2011, was a point guard who led the school to the 2011 Division II Los Angeles City Section championship, the school's first Division II section title in a decade.
He was also named the 2011 Division II player of the year in the All-City section before moving on to Fresno City College, where he also played basketball.
