Police Hope Security Video Will Help Nab Serial Window-Smash Burglar

CHINO (CBSLA.com) — Police are hoping new security video will help them solve a string of window-smash burglaries in the Inland Empire.

KCAL9's Adrianna Weingold reported that authorities have been trying to find the suspect responsible for 16 restaurant break-ins since November.

Mario Luna, the owner of Dragon Loco, said video shows a burglar ransacking his Ontario eatery early Monday morning.

"Breaking in and going through my stuff kind of feels weird," Luna said.

Luna said the suspect went straight for the cash register before he realized the drawers were empty and already sitting on the counter—a tactic the owner has used to discourage thefts.

"Somebody comes in, the first thing they see is we have no money," Luna said.

The suspect was described as Hispanic and 5 feet 10 inches tall. He was wearing long sleeves, a hat and a mask.

The same person is believed to have struck Nick's Pizzeria in Chino early Monday morning.

"They broke the window and all this here on the floor," owner Maria Moya said.

Moya, who has owned the pizzeria for 21 years, said this is the fourth time in two years the place has been targeted.

The culprit(s) got away with $300 on Monday. Televisions and cash totaling $1,000 were taken the last three times.
