Police: Suspect Who Allegedly Abducted Woman From Convenience Store Is In Custody

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)  —   Detectives with the LAPD's Southwest Division say a man who kidnapped a woman from a convenience store Wednesday is in custody.

The suspect allegedly abducted a 28-year-old woman from a convenience store  located at Denker Avenue and Exposition Boulevard Wednesday just before 3 p.m., authorities said.

The unidentified woman was able to escape but not before being roughed up and later hospitalized for medical evaluation, police said.

The woman, reported KCAL9's Andrea Fujii, was found at a cemetery in North Hollywood.

Officers responded to a silent alarm call at the store located in the 3900 block of Denker Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers learned that a kidnapping had taken place.

Police released surveillance of the violent kidnapping. Authorities also said the alleged kidnapper and victim did not know each other.

The victim -- a convenience store clerk --  was on duty when the suspect entered the store.

Police said the suspect, armed with a hammer, grabbed the victim, and dragged her out of the store into his vehicle.

Witnesses said the suspect  forced the victim into the vehicle and fled southbound on Denker Avenue.

Police identified the suspect as Jose Eduardo Gaxiola Caro, a 29-year-old Latino with black hair and brown eyes.

Caro was taken into custody in Burbank after a short pursuit, police said.
