Police: Hiker Hospitalized After Griffith Park Assault

LOS FELIZ (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a male hiker has been airlifted to a hospital after being assaulted in Griffith Park.

Police said they received a call of a hiker who had been assaulted in the 2200 block of Fern Dell Place near Red Oak Drive about 2:30 p.m. Monday.

The victim was taken to Cedar-Sinai Medical Center in critical condition, authorities said. He sustained severe injuries to his face.

Witnesses who saw the suspect contacted police, according to KCAL9's Peter Daut. A detailed description of the suspect was not available.

Police said both the victim and the suspected attacker may be transients.

A motive for the attack remained unknown.
