Ventura PD Officer Fatally Shoots Suspect After Pursuit Ends

VENTURA (CBSLA) — An officer with the Ventura Police Department fatally shot an assault with a deadly weapon suspect Thursday after a pursuit ended in Ventura.

According to police, the Oxnard Police Department was in pursuit of a vehicle that entered the city limits of Ventura. As the pursuit continued onto surface streets in the city, Oxnard PD requested assistance from Ventura PD.

Ventura PD took over the pursuit, which ended in the area of Harbor Boulevard and Seaward Avenue when the suspect's vehicle became disabled. The driver got out of the vehicle and a police officer fired their weapon, fatally striking the driver, authorities said.

According to authorities the pursuit began in the Oxnard area and appeared to have ended in a crash near the intersection of Harbor Boulevard and Seaward Avenue.

It was not immediately clear what led up to the fatal shooting, though no officers were injured.

Both Oxnard and Ventura police departments were on scene investigating.
