Police Fatally Shoot Man Suspected In Bank Robbery In Chino After Crash

CHINO (CBSLA.com) — Police in the Inland Empire shot and killed a man suspected of bank robbery after he carjacked a getaway vehicle and crashed, authorities said.

Officers in Corona responded to a report around 4 p.m. Wednesday of an armed robbery at Independence Bank branch at Sixth and Main streets, Corona police said.

While fleeing the scene, police say, the man carjacked a van at an undisclosed location.

Authorities caught up to the van and pursued the man into Chino, where he barreled off the 71 Expressway, plowed through barricades and crashed into a light pole at Euclid and Pine.

Police opened fire and killed the man.

No officers were injured.

Police won't say whether they recovered a weapon at the scene or what triggered the shooting.

They have not released the man's identity.
