Police Comb Through Trash Pile After False Report Of Body In Garbage Truck

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A false report about a man reportedly trapped inside a trash truck in downtown Los Angeles caused some traffic tie-ups Friday morning, authorities said.

Police received a report around 6:30 a.m. from a woman who said she saw a person fall into a trash truck along the 500 block of Grand Avenue near 6th Street, according to an LAPD spokesperson.

Officers responded to the scene, where the trash truck dumped its entire load onto the street looking for the reported body, police said. Crews dug through a mountain of trash, but no body was found, according to police.

Street Services personnel were called in and had the mess cleaned up by 9 a.m.

LAPD investigators were looking into the false report.
