Police Take Reckless Driving Suspect Into Custody After Wild Chase

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)  —  Police took a reckless driving suspect into custody after a brief chase through South Los Angeles Sunday evening.

Stu Mundel, reporting in Sky9, said the chase started at the 105 Freeway and Broadway.

The driver was erratic -- exceeding the speed limit on surface streets and making "a series of crazy and dangerous turns," Mundel reported.

Mundel said the driver has mostly kept to surface streets but often has exceeded speeds of 70 mph.

The driver is in an Audi. Police did not say if the car was registered stolen.

The unidentified motorist has also blown through several red lights and also nearly side-swiped several cars, including police.

The chase began around 10:15 p.m.

The car stopped just after 10:30 p.m. on a Wadsworth Avenue near Lanzit Avenue.

Police were quickly out of their vehicles with guns drawn.

The driver was ordered out of the vehicle with his hands up.

The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
