Police Chase Possible DUI Suspect From East LA To San Gabriel

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) —  Police pursued a possible DUI suspect in East LA in a chase that started on the northbound 5 Freeway as the driver briefly went on the 710 Freeway.

The unidentified suspect was speeding and often drove on the wrong side of the road, police said.

Most of the chase occurred on side streets and without headlights.

The driver also drove over sidewalks and through red lights.

He was going too fast to make a PIT maneuver, police said.

The driver hit a fire hydrant in the Alhambra area, disabling his vehicle.

The CHP approached the man and ordered him out of the vehicle.

The suspect was ordered to lay flat on the ground. He was apprehended, handcuffed and taken into custody.

At least six patrol cars chased the suspect.

During parts of the chase, Sky9's Stu Mundel said the driver was moving in excess of 60 mph and "making a lot of dangerous turns."
