4 Injured After Pursuit Ends In Violent Head-On Crash In Pasadena

PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say four people were transported to a hospital after a pursuit ended in a violent head-on crash in Pasadena.

The crash on the Colorado Street Bridge Friday evening involved a Toyota Corolla, the suspect's vehicle, and a bystander car described as a Nissan Maxima.

Prior to the pursuit, the California Highway Patrol says the Corolla had been involved in a hit-and-run crash near the 134 Freeway.

The CHP says, at the time, the victim in that crash hopped into a car and began following the Corolla.

Shortly after, CHP says 911 dispatch began receiving calls of a vehicle swerving and a possible drunken driver.

Officers caught up with the Corolla, which collided with a Maxima moments later, authorities said.

Firefighters said they transported four people to the hospital.

The suspect, identified as Delfino Eddie Rey, 58, was unconscious when removed from the car and had sustained traumatic injuries.

Two adults in the Maxima sustained moderate injuries, and a child had minor injuries.

The CHP says neither of the cars involved in the crash exceeded the speed limit.

The Colorado Street Bridge was shut down at 8 p.m. and was expected to remain closed for at least another hour.
