Police Arrest Man Suspected In Hit-And-Run At Huntington Beach Parking Lot

HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A 24-year-old man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a hit-and-run outside a Huntington Beach McDonald's last month.

Taylor Kirby, of Signal Hill, surrendered at the Huntington Beach Police Department Thursday.

His surrender came eight days after the April 22 incident, in which authorities say a Dodge Challenger struck and 85-year-old woman in the parking lot of the fast food restaurant located in the 16800 block of Beach Boulevard.

The woman was left lying on the ground after the driver and his passenger exited the vehicle and approached the victim only to re-enter the vehicle and flee the scene, according to investigators, who say the victim suffered head injuries as a result.

Investigators say they found the suspect vehicle, a grey Challenger with paper plates, in Signal Hill and were able to identify the driver as Kirby.

Kirby was arrested and booked into the Huntington Beach city jail on felony hit and run charges but was released from custody after posting bail.

Huntington Beach police credited their social media followers with helping to generate leads after local news media, including KCAL9 and CBSLA.com, covered the story and shared surveillance video from the incident.

"Thank you again to everyone for your assistance. Community policing and ‪#‎LESM‬ (law enforcement social media) working together for ‪#‎HuntingtonBeach‬," a statement from the department posted on Facebook read.

Kirby is next expected in court June 30.

The victim is recovering from her injuries.

A follow-up investigation is ongoing.
