Police: Alhambra Assistant Principal Confesses To Sexual Relationship With Former Student

RIVERSIDE (CBS/AP) — Police say an Alhambra educator jailed on felony charges of sex abuse confessed to having a sexual relationship with a former student who confronted her over the phone and posted video of the conversation on YouTube.

Riverside police Detective Roberta Hopewell said in court papers obtained Tuesday that 40-year-old Andrea Cardosa told Alhambra police she had a sexual relationship with the now-28-year-old woman who made the video when the alleged victim was a 12-year-old student at Chemawa Middle School.

Hopewell says the officers interviewed Cardosa after the woman sent the video to Alhambra High School, where Cardosa was an assistant principal. According to the court papers, Cardosa admitted to the allegations but said she believed the victim was 15 or 16 years old at the time. Later in the interview, Cardosa said the victim might have been 14 years old, according to the court papers.

Cardosa told police the relationship continued when the victim moved to Victorville and Hesperia, according to the court papers.

Police also interviewed a second victim, currently 18 years old, who was a former student of Cardosa's at Tomas Rivera Middle School and Citrus Hill High School in Perris. The second victim said Cardosa was assigned to "student discipline" when she met her, according to the court papers.

The second victim told police when she was 14 years old Cardosa took her for a ride in her car to a secluded area of Mead Valley, where Cardosa told her how much she loved her, tried to kiss her and touch her sexually, according to court papers. The second victim told police she stopped spending so much time with Cardosa after the touching incident.

On Monday, prosecutors charged Cardosa with 16 counts of sexual assault and abuse involving two alleged victims.

Messages left Tuesday for Cardosa's lawyer, Randy Collins, were not immediately returned.
