Suspicious Device Spurs Brief Partial Closure At LAX

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a suspicious device found at Los Angeles International Airport prompted the partial closure of a terminal.

The incident unfolded Tuesday afternoon after airport officials found the device inside luggage at Terminal 4, which is part of America Airlines.

The discovery prompted the partial evacuation of the departure area at the terminal and the dispatch of at least two bomb squad vehicles.

As of 4:30 p.m., KCAL9's Stu Mundel reported that traffic was freely flowing at the airport.

"We did see a lot of people walking back inside Terminal 4 so we believe that it's probably de-escalated quite a bit," reported Mundel.

There was no word yet on any arrests.

"A large police presence was still out here at the airport," Mundel said, adding that a command post had been set-up at the airport.
