Plans For Basketball Court At Runyon Canyon Put On Hold Amid Backlash From Residents
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Officials say construction work on a basketball court at Runyon Canyon has been put on hold following criticism and legal action from residents.
Councilman David Ryu said the Department of Recreation and Parks has agreed to halt construction on the project, which was the target of a lawsuit filed this week by the group Citizens Preserving Runyon that accused the city of failing to adhere to the
proper approval process.

Recreation and Parks commissioners will be also asked to reconsider the project, said Ryu.
"This project was initiated before I became the council member of the Fourth District and it is clear that community concern regarding this project needs more robust consideration prior to any further action," he said.
The move comes after residents and park users complained that officials did not provide enough notice about the project, which was to be built during the four-month closure of Runyon Canyon to accommodate the repair of old water pipes.
There was also some backlash against the basketball court's design, which city documents initially showed would bear the logo of
street apparel company Pink Dolphin, whose CEO donated money to the project.
