Placentia Man Fatally Slams Into Unoccupied Tow Truck On 15 Freeway

CORONA (CBSLA.com)   —   Authorities said a driver was killed Sunday when he slammed into an unoccupied tow truck on the Corona (15) Freeway.

The crash was reported at 11:37 a.m. on the northbound side of the freeway just north of Temescal Canyon Road, April Newman of the Riverside County Fire Department said.

The county coroner identified the victim as 66-year-old John Hutcherson of Placentia, who died at the scene.

It was unclear if the accident was weather related.

A SigAlert was issued just before noon as the two right lanes of the freeway were blocked, backing up northbound traffic for miles, according to the CHP, which was investigating the crash.
