Pierce College Evacuated Due To 'Credible Threat' On Campus

WOODLAND HILLS (CBSLA) — Classes at Pierce College in Woodland hills were cancelled Wednesday evening after police received reports of a "credible threat" at the school.

The campus located at Winnetka Avenue and Victory Boulevard was evacuated at about 5:30 p.m. after someone called police to saying they heard a man at a nearby bus stop threaten to shoot up the school.

"We're continuing our investigation to determine whether or not this was an actual credible threat or whether or not this was a person who is doing a hoax or played a joke," Los Angeles County Sheriff's Dept. Cpt. Rodrick Armalin told CBS2 News.

A man matching the description given to police was detained and questioned, but has not been arrested for making a threat against the college.

Roughly 4,000 students and staffers were told to go home.

Student journalists who were on campus Wednesday did no hesitate to investigate the incident.

"So, we're investigating ourselves, as well, trying to let everyone on campus know what's going on," said Brandi Love.

Pierce College posted an update on Facebook saying classes would resume Thursday morning.
