Photographer Beaten, Robbed, Carjacked In Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Police are looking for a man who attacked a local photographer before robbing and carjacking him in Hollywood.

Perhansa Skallerup, 29, said he was attacked on Wilton Place near Hollywood Boulevard at about 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19.

"It was the most terrifying thing that's ever happened to me," he said. He had just finished a job taking pictures for the website lifestyle LAist that night.

The photographer said was getting stuff out of his car to go home when a man approached him and asked him questions. As he turned his back for a second, he was knocked unconscious.

The next thing he knew -- he woke up to police officers and paramedics standing around him. Skallerup said his 2004 Scion was gone along with his Canon camera. His pockets were emptied. He also lost his wallet, keys and mobile phone.

Police said a witness called 9-1-1, and paramedics arrived immediately. "My guardian angel for the night. I didn't even get the person's name or phone number or anything," Skallerup said. "I'd love to thank them."

Skallerup suffered a concussion, broken nose, broken collar bone and chipped teeth.

Police said they have found his car in Huntington Park.

Skallerup said he is recovering at his brother's Oakland home right now.

"I want to get back out as soon as I can," the photographer said. "It's what I get up in the morning to do and get excited about because I love exploring the world" even when the world can be cruel.

Skallerup is asking for your donation to help pay for his medical bills and replace his camera, which is his livelihood. If you would like to help, go to his GoFundMe account.
