Black Lives Matter Petition Calling For Firing Of LAPD Chief Beck Delivered To LA Mayor

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Black Lives Matter activists have delivered thousands of signatures on a petition calling for the firing of Los Angeles Police Department Chief Charlie Beck.

Activists carried the petition to Los Angeles City Hall, asking for a meeting with Mayor Eric Garcetti, at about 1 p.m. Monday. An officer at the front desk told the activists that a representative of the mayor would contact them at a later time.

Protests by the group have been demonstrating at LAPD headquarters in increasing frequency following a series of deadly police confrontations involving black men and women across the country, including the Los Angeles-area deaths of Odell Abrego and Ezell Ford.

A spokesperson from the mayor's office said, "Our office has received the petition…and will share it with Mayor Garcetti."
